Compressing PDF files for email

July 05, 2026

We've all been there: you try to email a PDF and get an error saying the attachment is too large. Most email providers have a hard limit around 25MB.

Why are PDFs so big?

Usually, a massive PDF file is the result of uncompressed images or embedded fonts. Scanned documents are especially notorious for this.

How to fix it

Our compression tool runs in your browser and processes the file locally to reduce its size. It basically looks for images inside the PDF and scales them down.

  • Recommended: Good balance between quality and file size reduction.
  • Extreme: Scales images down aggressively. The quality will take a hit, but the file size will be much smaller.

Give the Compress PDF tool a try next time your email client complains about file sizes.
